If the conditions are right, you may be able to produce adequate energy for your home if you build wind power turbines and produce your own electricity.  It is a great concept that is used in many countries to supply electrical needs.

Wind supplied energy has become competitive with other forms of electrical production.  In commercial applications, wind turbines have proved quite successful, but in small domestic cases, the results were different.  Even though the wind is free, small turbines do not produce enough electricity for what they cost to install.  You should be sure to size yours for what your needs will be.

The Power of The Sun

Here is a small video that I found showing the amount of energy that solar power for your home could produce. See what happens to the brick, and then just imagine being able to store all of this power in solar panels. I was kind of amazed by this demonstration. By the way, please don’t destroy your flat sceen tv and try this experiment!!

How Efficient is Your Solar Panel

When looking for solar panels cheap, or actually cheap solar panels on the internet, you have probably at some point run into lots of talk about this one and that one, but not much as far as how expensive they are. The most common situation is that you have to call for a price. However, before you buy anything, make sure that you know what type of panels are the best ones for your situation. There are basically four types.

With electrical rates rising, a solar home installation makes good sense.  The prices are lower than just a year ago.  They’ll continue to drop as more people commit to the use of solar panels, and more companies offer the service.  The difficult thing to swallow has always been the length of time it takes to get a return on your investment.  Some authorities believe that currently, it can be estimated at 10 years or less.

Most utility companies offer some kind of incentive to home owners for a solar installation.  These plans may vary a great deal from one location to another, so let’s just look at the advantages in a broad scope.

Solar House Design – Passive and Active Systems

As with everything else, there are varying opinions about the best way to approach a solar house design.  The two primary systems, although there are variations, are passive and active systems.  The central theme for both systems is to reduce dependency on fossil fuels and, at the same time, save on heating, cooling, and operational costs.

The passive home is designed to use as much of the heat and warmth of the sun in winter as is physically possible.  In the summer, it is designed to close out the sun as much as possible.  This is done passively, without the use of a great deal of mechanical help.
