When you buy something, you want it to be new and shiny.  We all attribute new with something that looks good and lasts a long time.  Unfortunately, we don’t always have the fluid assets to purchase the new and shiny; sometimes we have to settle for the old but dependable.  If you have priced out equipment for solar energy, you have probably discovered that a single panel costs well over $1,000.  That may cause you to consider shopping for a used solar panel instead. 

If the conditions are right, you may be able to produce adequate energy for your home if you build wind power turbines and produce your own electricity.  It is a great concept that is used in many countries to supply electrical needs.

Wind supplied energy has become competitive with other forms of electrical production.  In commercial applications, wind turbines have proved quite successful, but in small domestic cases, the results were different.  Even though the wind is free, small turbines do not produce enough electricity for what they cost to install.  You should be sure to size yours for what your needs will be.

Back in the pioneer days, the families who settled the American west by homesteading in covered wagons were able to carve out a decent living without the need for electricity, but they were not addicted to televisions, computers and labor saving devices the way we are here in the 21st century. Many people today have realized the dream of being completely off the grid by combining wind and solar energy. Small sized affordable wind generators are available today for the home user, and they are being combined with photovoltaic cells for power generation. It’s obvious that fossil fuel energy costs are going to keep on rising making it harder to afford getting power from the grid. The time is more than ripe for solar wind energy to be one of the solutions to rising energy costs, and to take us off of fossil fuel energy dependence.
